A C# developer is one of the most sought-after professionals in the world of technology since their work has to do with programming languages of this type.

Every C# developer must be able to design, develop, and improve software solutions based on the requirements of the project, business, or company he/she is working for.

Additionally, the C# developer has many other responsibilities including the support and maintenance of the developments and applications of a web page. All this makes it a very important job in the company.

C# is the most human programming language that any computer can understand. Its name comes from the evolution of a previous language, called B, which was created at Bell Laboratories, and originally developed by Dennis Ritchie, between 1969 and 1972. Its main characteristic is the efficiency of the code, and it’s used to create operating systems, applications, and even games.

What is the C# programming language?

C#, or .NET, as it is also known, is one of the most relevant software development environments today, practically since Microsoft launched it in 2002. It was initially created to enable application development for Microsoft Windows.

However, in 2015, Microsoft launched .NET Core. This new version of the framework includes other environments such as Linux and macOS, which considerably expand the scope and sustainability of the platform.

Currently, the .NET programming community awaits the next version of the framework, .NET 5. Microsoft announced the release of .NET 5 in November 2020. With this new version, it remains a versatile development environment, including Windows, Linux, and macOS environments, based on the capabilities of the previous version, .NET Core.

In addition, Microsoft announced that the new version includes the ability to support different portals on the same platform. Some examples of the verticals that .NET 5 will integrate are Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), and video games, along with the more conventional verticals of mobile, desktop, and cloud computing applications.

What is the role of the .NET developer?

Like most developers, a .NET developer can be part of a full-time dedicated team, where operational support and maintenance responsibilities are predominant.

Another role, usually more sought after, is project-based, where a .NET developer may be part of a consulting team or freelance.

Although a .NET developer can work in practically any company, it is more common for them to assume operational roles in companies in traditional economic and industrial sectors, such as Food and Beverage, Manufacturing, Wholesale, and Retail, among others.

On the other hand, a .NET programmer usually works on a project basis in companies specializing in application development and consulting for software implementation projects.

In other words, a .NET programmer usually has a set of specialized skills in programming languages and frameworks, which allow him to perform in a particular set of projects and roles, depending on his professional goals.
